Mouliherne, étymologiquement Molendinum Herbe (Moulinherbe), est devenue depuis de nombreuses années Mouliherne, en raison des nombreux moulins tournant sur le beau ruisseau au nom poétique " la Riverolle ", qui traverse la commune.

Mouliherne, derived from Molendinum Herbe (Moulinherbe), has come to be known through the ages simply as Mouliherne, because of the numerous mills which turned on the beautiful stream with a poetic name ‘la Riverolle’, which flows through the commune.

Le bourg est dominé au nord par l’imposante église Saint-Germain. L’église primitive fut construite au XIe siècle non loin d’un puissant château fort détruit en 1049. L’église, classée monument historique, reconstruite à plusieurs reprises, deviendra au cours des siècles, du XIe au XVe siècle, une des plus belles églises de l’Anjou. Son clocher tors ou hélicoïdal a été construit vers 1690. Une association européenne a d’ailleurs été constituée en 1991 pour comprendre l’origine de cette architecture.

The village is dominated in the north by the imposing church of Saint-Germain. The primitive foundations of the church were constructed in the 11th century not far from a powerful fortress, destroyed in 1049. The church, now classed as an historic monument, was added to and rebuilt many times from the 11th to the 15th centuries, to become one of the prettiest churches in all of Anjou. The twisted, or helicoidal tower was constructed around 1690. A European Association was formed in 1991 to better understand the origins of this type of architecture.
